How we do it

Seven steps.
Every time.

Hot water extraction is the most thorough way to clean upholstery there is. The machine sprays cleaning solution into the fabric under pressure, the solution breaks down what is stuck in there, and the same pass pulls it straight back out into the tank. The fabric comes out deep-cleaned rather than soaked, and the machine reaches the layers of padding where dust and dust mites build up.

We start by reading the fabric, not by wetting it. Then the same seven steps every time, from inspection to fabric protection — that's what separates looking clean from being clean.

  1. 01

    Inspection

We check the fabric and how each mark got there — a fresh spill isn't treated like ground-in dirt — and flag anything that might be permanent before we start, not after you've paid.

  2. 02

    Pre-vacuum

Dry soil comes out first with a thorough vacuum pass. Skip this and it just turns to mud the moment water goes on.

  3. 03

    Pre-spray

A pre-spray matched to the fabric breaks down embedded dirt and oils before any water touches it — wool gets a different mix to synthetic, not the same bottle for everything.

  4. 04

    Hand cleaning

The worst of it gets worked by hand, with a brush suited to the fabric, before the machine ever touches it.

  5. 05

    Extraction wash

Hot water and cleaning solution go in under pressure, deep enough to reach the padding, and come straight back out through the same machine in the same pass — Kärcher and Chemspec.

  6. 06

    Rinse

A final rinse with clean water only, until every trace of the cleaning solution is gone. Skip this and residue attracts new dirt within weeks.

  7. 07

    Fabric protection

Optional, A$30 an item. A protective layer that shields against the next spill and keeps the result lasting longer.

What we clean

If it's soft, it's on the list.

  • Sofas and corner lounges
  • Sofa beds, including the mechanism
  • Armchairs and recliners
  • Dining and office chairs
  • Desk and gaming chairs
  • Pouffes and footstools
  • Loose and back cushions
  • Upholstered bed frames and headboards
Fabrics

And what we won't wet-clean.

  • Sheep and camel wool — wet cleaning is not suitable and we'll say so before we start
  • Anything already treated with supermarket stain remover, which can set a stain permanently
  • Furniture in basements, garages, attics or storage — we work in living spaces only

We can't promise every stain will go. Dyes, bleach marks and old soaked-in damage are sometimes permanent. What we do promise is that our technician inspects the piece first and tells you which is which — before you've paid for anything.

Before we arrive

Two minutes
of prep.

  • Take everything off the sofa and empty the bedding compartment if it has one
  • Clear about 80 cm around each piece so the technician can work all the way round
  • Make sure we can get to hot running water and a power point
  • Check the feet have felt pads — without them, sliding a lounge away from the wall can mark the floor
  • Move clothes, books and electronics out of the area — we can't take responsibility for items left nearby

The rest is ours. The technician moves the furniture off the wall, lays towels or plastic over the floor and mixes the solution in its own container — floors and walls stay dry. A standard 2-seat sofa takes about an hour.

After that it is just a matter of waiting for the fabric to dry. If someone sleeps on the sofa, book us for 8 am and it will be dry by the evening.

What we bring

Boring answer:
good gear.

Stains

Included,
not extra.

Stain treatment is part of the price, not a separate service. Most marks that haven't soaked deep into the fibres disappear with the right stain remover and an extraction pass. In our experience about 90% of stains on upholstery come out.

Some won't — because they are damage rather than dirt

  • Grease and oil marks
  • Old blood stains
  • Glue and varnish
  • Bleached patches from DIY cleaning attempts
  • Discolouration from some acrylic paints

Having a go yourself with supermarket products often makes it worse — the mark gets spread around or driven permanently into the fibres. Extraction rescues plenty of furniture after a failed home attempt, but it can't undo permanent damage. The technician tells you before starting which stains won't come out, and you decide from there whether to go ahead.

Odours

The source,
not a cover-up.

A smell hangs around when whatever caused it has soaked into the fabric or the foam underneath. The shops are full of products that cover a smell; none of them deal with what is causing it. Extraction goes after the source instead.

We clear the source in roughly 80% of jobs. Extraction reaches 2 to 3 cm deep at most, so when a liquid — pet urine is the usual one — has gone right down into the foam, getting rid of the smell completely may not be possible.

That is why we don't guarantee odour removal, and we tell you when you book rather than afterwards. When the source sits on the surface or in the top layers, extraction normally sorts it out completely.
